A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts over 45 mph and nickel-sized hail is moving through Bear River Range, Bear Lake Valley, Blackfoot Mountains, and Caribou Range; residents should seek shelter indoors by 7:00 PM MDT.
Residents in the Bear River Range, Bear Lake Valley, Blackfoot Mountains, and Caribou Range should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pocatello, ID, issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:35 PM MDT today, October 10, 2026.
Doppler radar indicates this storm, located 8 miles east of Thatcher and 15 miles northwest of Montpelier, is moving northeast at 35 mph. Hazards include wind gusts in excess of 45 mph and nickel-sized hail. These conditions could cause tree limbs to fall and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects from hail is also possible.
Locations that may be impacted include Georgetown, Emigrant Summit, and Georgetown Summit. Heavy rainfall is accompanying this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roadways.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 7:00 PM MDT today, October 10, 2026.
