Pasco County opened two self-serve sandbag stations to help residents protect low-lying properties from anticipated heavy rainfall. The stations are open 24/7 and are located at Pasco County Public Works (C-Barn), 30908 Warder Road in San Antonio, and Magnolia Valley Golf Course, 7223 Massachusetts Avenue in New Port Richey. Both sites are open to all Pasco County residents.
Sand and sandbags will be restocked daily, weather permitting. Residents should bring their own shovels and be prepared to fill the bags themselves.
The county also urged residents to observe flood safety, emphasizing the "Turn Around, Don't Drown!" message. This means avoiding flooded areas, especially those with flowing water, and never attempting to cross streams or flooded roads. Increased caution is advised during nighttime or in low visibility conditions. Vehicles driving through flooded streets can create waves that cause property damage.
Additionally, the county warned of increased mosquito activity and the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses in areas with standing water. Residents can help reduce mosquito breeding by regularly draining outdoor containers, emptying and refilling pet water bowls and birdbaths, removing yard debris that collects water, and ensuring gutters and drains flow freely.
Residents can find more information on disaster preparedness and sign up for emergency notifications through Alert Pasco at PascoEmergencyManagement.com.
