Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Four MS Counties

Residents in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, and Monroe counties are urged to prepare for tropical storm conditions as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, TN. This warning is effective immediately, as of 1:42 PM CDT on October 9, and extends through tomorrow afternoon.

The primary threats are gusty winds up to 40 mph and periods of heavy rainfall, with up to 3 inches possible. Potential impacts include significant rainfall flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues, swollen rivers, and localized road closures due to debris. There is also a risk of power outages and damage to light structures.

The NWS reports that the storm is currently about 420 miles south-southeast of Tupelo, MS, moving north-northeast at 16 mph with sustained winds of 120 mph.
