Strong Thunderstorm Nearing Calhoun and Chickasaw Counties

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Calhoun and Chickasaw Counties due to a strong thunderstorm. Residents outdoors should consider seeking shelter indoors.
As of 7:04 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Derma, approximately 14 miles west of Houston. The storm is moving southeast at 10 mph. Hazards include wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail. The National Weather Service in Memphis, TN, issued this statement, which is effective until 7:30 PM CDT tonight, September 21st.
Impacts from this storm may include gusty winds strong enough to knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible. Areas expected to be impacted include Calhoun City, Vardaman, Derma, Woodland, Atlanta, and Tabbville.
