Freeze Warning for Upper Hood River Valley: Protect Plants Now
A Freeze Warning is in effect for the Upper Hood River Valley from midnight tonight until Monday morning, with temperatures as low as 28-32 degrees expected, prompting residents to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.
Residents in the Upper Hood River Valley should take immediate steps to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland, OR has issued a Freeze Warning effective from midnight tonight, October 11, until 8 AM PDT on Monday, October 12.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit are expected in the Upper Hood River Valley, particularly near Parkdale. These conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
To mitigate impacts, the NWS advises temporarily moving outdoor potted plants indoors if they are sensitive to cold temperatures. For plants that cannot be moved, consider covering them with a lightweight cotton fabric, such as bedsheets or thin blankets. This will help retain heat and provide frost protection.
