Hollywood residents can better understand their city by recognizing its distinct districts, each possessing unique history and boundaries. These defined areas provide context for local planning and development, preserving the character of neighborhoods such as Downtown Hollywood and the vibrant coastal strip.
The Downtown District, established in 1979, spans about 580 acres. Its boundaries run from 22nd Avenue to generally 17th Avenue in the east, with Johnson Street forming its northern edge and Washington Street its southern limit. This central area continues to serve as a hub for city activities and businesses.
East of Downtown, the Beach District was created in 1997. This district covers 293 acres, extending from Sherman Street south to the southern property line of the Diplomat Resort and Spa. The Atlantic Ocean marks its eastern boundary, and the Intracoastal Waterway defines its western edge.
These defined districts inform the city's development and zoning, influencing local services and community planning. Residents can consult official city maps for specific boundary details and planning information.
