Heat Advisory Issued: Dangerous Heat Expected Through Thursday Night
A Heat Advisory is in effect for multiple Bay Area counties, including Sonoma, Santa Clara, and Monterey, from October 6 at 9:02 PM PDT until October 8 at 10:00 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 105 degrees expected.
Residents across the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, and parts of Monterey and San Benito Counties are urged to take immediate precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA. The advisory is effective immediately, October 6 at 9:02 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until 10:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8.
Forecasters anticipate hot conditions with maximum temperatures ranging from the mid-90s to near 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight relief will be limited due to mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow.
This level of heat can affect anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Impacts are likely for health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure.
Actionable safety measures are critical during this period. The NWS advises everyone to prioritize hydration; drink water regularly and consider providing water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, take extra precautions: wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. It is crucial to recognize and act on symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke immediately.
Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes. This advisory covers specific areas including the East Bay, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, North Bay Interior Mountains and Valleys, Santa Clara Valley and Eastern Hills, Santa Cruz Mountains, Interior Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Range, most of San Benito County, and the Cholame Hills in Southeast Monterey County, as well as the Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio.
