John Kasich declared a state of emergency Aug. 2, 2014, after a harmful algae bloom in Lake Erie contaminated the area’s public water system. Members of the Ohio Army and Air National Guard have been activated to stand up water distribution sites for those communities impacted until the state of emergency is lifted.
