Residents in Inland Hillsborough are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm moves through the area. A Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL at 5:43 PM EDT on September 20, 2026, indicates hazardous conditions are expected until 6:30 PM EDT.

Doppler radar detected the thunderstorm near Fish Hawk, moving south at 5 mph. Expected hazards include wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-sized hail. These conditions could result in downed tree limbs, unsecured objects blowing around, and minor hail damage to vegetation.

Locations impacted include Fish Hawk, Brandon, Valrico, Alafia River State Park, Lithia Springs State Park, Bloomingdale, and Boyette. The NWS warns of torrential rainfall, which may cause localized flooding. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring. Remember that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. If you are outdoors, immediately seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
