South University, High Point is located at 4050 Premier Drive, Suite 104, High Point, NC 27265, approximately ten minutes away from I-40. The campus is close to the Palladium Shopping Center and within a ten-minute drive of Oak Hollow Festival Park, Piedmont Environmental Center, and High Point City Lake Park. Overview The Atlanta campus is South University's newest campus located in the woodsy Ashford Center, about thirty minutes away from downtown Atlanta. "The City of Greenacres has a Council-Manager form of Government that combines the strong political leadership of elected officials (Mayor and City Council) with the managerial experience of an appointed City Manager. The Mayor and five (5) City Council members serve as the legislative body of the City enacting legislation, setting policy, approving the budget, and comprehensive plan to guide the growth of the City. The Mayor is elected at large for a four (4) year term (limited to three (3) consecutive terms) and serves as the key elected official presiding at Council meetings, facilitating communication between elected and appointed officials; assisting the Council in setting goals and advocating policy decisions. The Mayor does not vote on issues before the Council unless there is a tie vote. The Mayor also has the power to veto ordinances. The five (5) Councilmembers are also elected by all City registered voters for staggered four (4) year terms (limited to three (3) consecutive terms) to represent the entire City. The Council appoints a City Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the City, and implement Council policies. The Manager is responsible for preparing an annual budget, overseeing all City government operations including all personnel, and preparing policy proposals for the Council's consideration. The City Council also appoints a City Attorney to serve as the legal advisor to all departments relating to their official duties. "Planning and Zoning Board/Local Planning Agency Duties: Review and make recommendations to City Council on requests for annexations, rezoning, special exceptions, site plans, site plan amendments, and zoning text amendments for compatibility with neighboring areas. To ensure sufficient handicap parking and landscaping standards are met and to propose modifications when needed. Make recommendations on community appearance and development site plan petitions; recommend text amendments and future land use amendments to the City's Comprehensive Plan. Membership: Five (5) Regular and two (2) Alternate members. The members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. All members must be City residents, except to obtain members with technical and professional expertise from Palm Beach County. Terms: All members serve three (3) year terms. Meetings: Monthly meetings, however, they can be canceled or rescheduled if necessary. The Board meetings are governed by the latest edition of Roberts' Rules of Order.
