Walhalla Announces New Athletic Director

Walhalla, SC — The City of Walhalla is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonathan “Petey” Ridley as its new Athletic Director. Ridley brings several years of hands-on experience in recreation programming, youth athletics and facility operations, along with a strong commitment to community engagement and positive youth development. Ridley has served with the Seneca Recreation Department since 2020, where he has been actively involved in the daily operations of youth and adult sports programs. In this role, he has coordinated game-day logistics, supported facility rentals, maintained safety standards and worked closely with staff, coaches, parents, and participants to ensure successful programming. In addition to his municipal experience, Ridley has a background in coaching and player development. He has worked with youth travel baseball teams, served as a catching coach for Seneca High School’s C-Team and Varsity programs, and most recently coached a 14U recreational baseball team. His coaching philosophy emphasizes skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship—values that align closely with the City’s recreation mission. PRT Chair Jessie Bunning shares “We are excited to welcome Mr. Ridley to the City of Walhalla Recreation Department. I am confident he will give this role his all, bringing energy, dedication and a strong commitment to serving our community. Most importantly, I believe Ridley will place a meaningful focus on developing and supporting the young athletes of the Walhalla area, helping them grow both on and off the field. His commitment to fostering growth, teamwork and meaningful experiences will have a lasting impact on our community.” As Athletic Director, Ridley will oversee the City’s athletic programming, support facility operations and work to expand recreational opportunities while maintaining a positive and inclusive environment for participants and families; as the City looks ahead to its new $5.4 million recreation center, scheduled to open in August. Ridley is expected to begin his new role on May 11.The post City of Walhalla Announces Jonathan “Petey” Ridley as Athletic Director first appeared on City of Walhalla.
