File a USPS Claim: Domestic

File a USPS Claim: Domestic If you sent a package inside the U.S. that was lost, damaged, or had broken or missing pieces and it was covered by insurance, learn how to file an "indemnity claim." Your insurance may have been included with the USPS service or purchased separately. Eligible items include: Priority Mail Express items and other insured mail, Collect on Delivery (COD) items, and Registered Mail items with insurance. How to File a Claim Either the sender or the recipient may file a claim for insured mail that is lost, arrived damaged, or was missing contents. The person filing must have the original mailing receipt. Each claim must be filed within a certain time period and include proof of insurance, value, and damage. Step 1: Check Filing Periods Each mail service has a different filing period based on the mailing date on your receipt and whether your package arrived damaged. Damaged or Missing Contents: If your item arrives damaged or is missing contents, you may file a claim immediately but must file no later than 60 days after the mailing date. Lost Mail or Package: If your item does not arrive at all, file a claim in the time period for the service you used. Filing a Claim for Lost Mail or Packages by Service: - Priority Mail Express: File after 7 days, file before 60 days - Priority Mail Express COD: File after 15 days, file before 60 days - Priority Mail: File after 15 days, file before 60 days - USPS Ground Advantage: File after 15 days, file before 60 days - Insured Mail: File after 15 days, file before 60 days - Collect on Delivery (COD): File after 15 days, file before 60 days - Registered Mail & Registered COD Mail: File after 15 days, file before 60 days - APO/FPO Priority Mail Express Military Service: File after 21 days, file before 180 days - APO/FPO/DPO Insured Mail, Registered Mail (Priority Mail, First-Class Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, SAM, or PAL services): File after 45 days, file before 1 year - APO/FPO/DPO Insured Mail (Surface only): File after 75 days, file before 1 year Step 2: Gather Your Documents Tracking or Label Number: The tracking or label number is found on your online label record, package label, mailing receipt, or sales receipt. Tracking and label numbers are between 13 and 34 characters. Evidence of Insurance Purchased: Original mailing receipt issued at the time of mailing, outer packaging showing the names and addresses of the sender and the addressee and the proper label showing that the article was sent insured, or printed electronic online label record or computer printout from the application used to print the label and purchase the insurance. USPS may not legally pay compensation for uninsured lost or damaged articles. Proof of Value: Sales receipt, paid invoice or paid bill of sale, statement of value and/or estimates of repair costs from a reputable dealer, credit card billing statement, receipt of costs incurred for reconstruction of non-negotiable documents, or printouts of the online transaction identifying the purchaser and seller, price paid, date of transaction, description of item purchased, and assurance that the transaction status is completed. Proof of Damage: Photos that clearly show the extent of damage will help with your case. For damaged claims, you must provide an estimate of the repair costs from a reputable dealer. Save the original packaging and everything in the package until your claim is settled. Do not throw out damaged items, even after you photograph them. Do not reship items that were not damaged. You may be asked to take the entire package to your local Post Office facility for inspection. Step 3: File Your Claim The fastest and easiest way to file your claim is online. If you cannot file a claim on USPS.com, you can start a claim process by mail. After you file, keep all your evidence documents until the claim is resolved. Filing Online: To file online, log in to or create your free USPS.com account. Your claim case will be associated with your account. You will be able to save your claim to finish later if you cannot complete the form in one session. Once you have filed a claim, you can see it in your Claim History. When you file your claim online, you can opt in to receive status email notifications, which will be sent to the email address listed on your USPS.com account. Filing by Mail: If you're unable to file a claim online, you can have a Domestic Claim Form mailed to you by calling the USPS National Materials Customer Service at 1-800-332-0317 (requests for paper Domestic Claim Forms only). Hours of Operation: Monday–Friday: 6 AM–6 PM CT; Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays: Closed. Complete the form and mail it, along with proof of value and evidence of insurance, to the address on the form. After You File – Next Steps USPS Accounting Services determines whether to pay a claim in full or in part, or to deny a claim. USPS usually sends claims decisions within 5-10 days. When you file your claim online, you can opt in to receive status email notifications, which will be sent to the email address listed on your USPS.com account. You can also check Claim History in your USPS.com account for updates. Approved Claims: Your claim may be completely approved or approved in part. After your claim is approved, you should receive payment for the claim amount in 7-10 business days. USPS does not pay a claim higher than an item's actual value. Denied Claims: Claims can be partially or fully denied. Your decision letter will list the reasons for the denial. Making an Appeal If your refund was only partially paid or completely denied, you may file an appeal within 30 days of receiving the decision. Submit your appeal the same way you submitted the original claim, whether online or by mail. You can start an online claim from your Claim History. Focus your appeal on the reasons your claim was denied. You may submit new documentation to support your appeal. If your appeal is denied, you can file a second appeal within 30 days of the date you received the appeal denial.

American Legion Gaming connects with troops at LA Fleet Week 2026

It was a two-pronged mission for American Legion Gaming (ALG) during LA Fleet Week 2026: introduce active-duty service members to The American Legion while providing a welcoming space where troops could relax, unwind, and connect through gaming. As part of Southern California’s America 250 Summer Kickoff Event, LA Fleet Week brought thousands of sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen into the Port of Los Angeles aboard vessels, including the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2), Coast Guard patrol boat USCGC Halibut (WPB 87340) and Fast Response Cutter USCGC Terrell Horne (WPC-1131). Adjacent to the battleship USS Iowa, American Legion Gaming established an exhibit area featuring multiple gaming consoles and a racing simulator. The shaded space quickly became a popular destination for servicemembers and veterans looking for a break from the crowds. ALG volunteers used the opportunity to introduce troops to Legion programs while demonstrating how gaming can foster camaraderie and community. At the same time, the organization partnered with the USO, which operated a large entertainment area near the Essex where sailors could relax after coming ashore. Within the USO area, American Legion Gaming provided three PlayStation consoles and a racing simulator available to servicemembers around the clock throughout the event. Comfortable couches and gaming stations gave troops a chance to socialize, compete and decompress. Ryan Okita, executive director of the USO in California, said the partnership enhanced the experience for visiting servicemembers. “Having the opportunities to play games out here has really enhanced what we’re doing,” he said. Many of the sailors visiting Fleet Week had been at sea for extended periods, while others were experiencing Los Angeles for the first time. The event also served as a successful recruiting opportunity for The American Legion. Jeff Sterling, incoming commander of Vanguard Post 1337—The American Legion’s online gaming-focused post — said the response from servicemembers exceeded expectations. “A lot of servicemembers are not aware of The American Legion, and they are now becoming aware of The American Legion, and so far we are at 25 new members,” Sterling said. He believes online communities such as Post 1337 represent an important evolution for the organization. “It’s the future,” he said. “Every day we are changing, and to have this online post, this connectability where it’s not community based other than a global community, it’s going to allow us to make great changes to help the veterans in The American Legion.” For many volunteers, Fleet Week highlighted the growing role gaming can play in veteran engagement and wellness. Steven Travali, incoming commander of Pacific Palisades Post 283, sees gaming as a tool to combat issues such as PTSD, depression and isolation among veterans. Meanwhile, ALG Senior Team Lead for Development and Operations Jacob Hammersmith connected servicemembers to both Legion membership applications and the organization’s active Discord community, which includes thousands of veterans, active-duty personnel and military family members. “It’s a really small world,” Hammersmith said, while recounting how he unexpectedly reconnected with a former Army colleague through the platform. That sense of connection was echoed by ALG Director of Logistics and Planning Medic Always, who emphasized the organization's mission: “The sense of community and camaraderie that we lose when we get out is never gone. You just have to find it. And we’re here.” Through gaming, online communities, and events like LA Fleet Week, American Legion Gaming continues to help veterans and servicemembers find that connection. Solace Health and American Legion Partner to Help Veterans Navigate Healthcare

Solace Health and The American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans service organization, are proud to announce a new partnership. The collaboration unites two organizations with a shared conviction: Veterans have earned the best possible healthcare and deserve expert help to get it. Together, Solace Health and The American Legion are taking on one of the most persistent challenges in veterans' healthcare. While the VA provides vital, high-quality care, many veterans receive some or all of their healthcare through private health systems covered by Medicare or commercial insurance. These veterans often need help understanding their health insurance benefits and keeping their care coordinated across systems. Through this partnership, veterans can be matched with a dedicated healthcare advocate — registered nurses and other healthcare professionals with an average of 16 years of experience — who helps them get the care they deserve. "Veterans have earned the best healthcare possible for their service to our nation," said Paul Evenson, American Legion Marketing Commission Chairman. "The VA provides high-quality care for millions of veterans. But today, many veterans also receive care from private providers, Medicare, and specialty systems, and navigating that complexity is a burden no veteran should carry alone. Through this partnership with Solace Health, veterans have access to experienced advocates who help them navigate their healthcare and get every benefit they’ve earned." Solace Health pairs veterans with dedicated healthcare advocates who handle the complex, time-consuming work that too often falls on patients themselves. Advocates explain benefits, find the right doctors and specialists, and schedule appointments. They coordinate records and communication across VA, Medicare, and private insurance, and make sure VA and civilian providers stay aligned on treatment. They take on the administrative work so veterans can focus on their health instead of the healthcare system. "Veterans should have someone in their corner who stops at nothing to get them the best care," said Jeremy Gurewitz, CEO and co-founder of Solace Health. "Healthcare is complicated for everyone, but veterans face an added burden. While they have access to excellent care through the VA, there’s often very little connective tissue between the different people and providers who take care of them. We’re proud to partner with The American Legion to make sure the gaps between systems don’t become gaps in care." American Legion members can learn more and check their eligibility at solace.health/american-legion. Solace Health is the leading healthcare advocacy platform that connects patients with dedicated, trained healthcare advocates who navigate the healthcare system on their behalf, improving outcomes and time-to-care. Founded in 2022 by Jeremy Gurewitz and Sara Sargent after their own experiences with a fragmented healthcare system, Solace empowers patients to take control of their care journeys. Solace advocates—healthcare experts with 16 years’ experience on average—coordinate with providers, guide patients through complex care decisions, and ensure continuity of care, helping patients and families overcome the barriers that stand in the way of better healthcare. We’re honored to support American Legion members. Learn more at solace.health/american-legion. Founded in 1919, The American Legion is the nation's largest veterans service organization, with more than 1.4 million members across more than 11,500 posts nationwide. Built on four pillars — veterans affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism, and youth programs — The American Legion has spent more than a century advocating for veterans, supporting military families, and strengthening communities across the country. A common theme ran through the initial planning conversations: “We want to create something we didn’t have when we were growing up.” That same idea has been the foundation of planning year after year."

"There are many ways for you to bless this ministry! We ask that you would investigate other possible ways for our partners to simply shop as usual, but with the intention of also blessing this ministry…OR donate through other ways, including your employer’s “matching gifts” program.  We are also truly grateful for the funds contributed through United Fund Programs in Arizona; especially here in Globe/Miami.
