Hernando County residents seeking public information can now access a range of records through the Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) website. The Sheriff's Office provides online portals for inquiries related to arrests, offense reports, and civil data, aiming to streamline the public's access to information.
The HCSO Public Records Inquiry section of the website offers specific tools for residents. For those interested in law enforcement activity, the site allows users to review arrests made by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Users can search for arrests within specific date ranges, defaulting to the past year if no dates are entered, or by first and last name. Additionally, offense reports taken by the Sheriff's Office can be reviewed, with options to search by street name and date ranges that default to the last six months.
Access to civil data is also available. A "quick look" at people served in the last three days is provided, though officials note there can be a delay between service and system entry. Residents can also enter a first and last name to search for papers served on an individual. For those concerned about community safety, the website links to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Sex Offender and Predator database, including a map feature to search for offenders in specific neighborhoods.
It is important to note that the online databases contain only records not considered confidential under Florida public records laws. Requests for records predating October 1, 1995, must be submitted through a formal records request. The Sheriff's Office also directs users to their Jail Search page for all arrests booked into the Hernando County Jail.
Residents can visit the Records Section homepage on the HCSO website for more detailed information on how to request records, what constitutes a public record, and answers to frequently asked questions.
