Strong Winds Expected Across Central and North-Central Montana Tonight
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for central and north-central Montana, warning of strong winds up to 55 mph through tonight, posing risks of tree and power line damage.
Residents in Eastern Toole and Liberty, Hill County, Northern Blaine County, Western and Central Chouteau County, Judith Basin County and Judith Gap, and Fergus County below 4500ft should be prepared for gusty to strong westerly winds continuing through this evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately and expiring at 10:00 PM MDT tonight, September 25.
Wind gusts are anticipated to reach between 45 to 55 mph. These winds, combined with a frontal passage and scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, may cause damage to trees and power lines, particularly as many trees are still fully leafed or weakened from previous storms. Damaged tree branches could become flying debris.
The NWS advises pedestrians and those outdoors to watch for flying debris and avoid being near trees during periods of stronger winds. Additionally, individuals traveling on north to south oriented roadways should prepare for strong crosswinds.
