Residents in Forrest and Jones Counties, Mississippi, should take immediate shelter. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 7:45 PM CDT tonight, September 21.

At 7:17 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected over Sunrise, near Petal, moving south at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Radar indicates these hazards.

Impacts are expected to include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The storm is anticipated to reach Hattiesburg around 7:25 PM CDT.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows. This warning is issued by the NWS Jackson MS.
