Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Harlan & Leslie Counties Until 12:30 AM EDT

Residents in southwestern Harlan County and south-central Leslie County are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY.

The warning is in effect immediately until 12:30 AM EDT on September 22, 2026. At 11:55 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Wallins Creek, near Harlan, moving east at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

The severe thunderstorm is expected to impact Harlan around 12:00 AM EDT, Kitts around 12:05 AM EDT, Coxton around 12:10 AM EDT, and Rosspoint around 12:15 AM EDT. Other locations in the path include Kildav.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and flash flooding is possible. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Stay indoors and away from windows until the warning expires.
