A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Northeast Highlands and multiple counties in east-central New Mexico, effective immediately until 6:00 PM MDT this evening, October 1, 2026. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque, NM, issued the advisory at 11:12 AM MDT.
Residents in Curry County, De Baca County, Guadalupe County, Quay County, Roosevelt County, Eastern San Miguel County, Harding County, and the Northeast Highlands should prepare for strong north winds. Winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. These conditions include Interstate 40 in eastern New Mexico, specifically from Guadalupe County to the Texas border.
The strong winds will impact unsecured objects, which may be blown around. Tree limbs could also be blown down. Motorists, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should exercise extreme caution due to strong crosswinds expected on east-to-west oriented roadways. Driving may become difficult under these conditions.
