LOUISIANA’S OLD GOVERNOR’S MANSION INVITES STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE ART Back to Newsroom LOUISIANA’S OLD GOVERNOR’S MANSION INVITES STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE ART September 17, 2026 BATON ROUGE, La. — The Old Governor’s Mansion is inviting Louisiana students to participate in the second annual Art in the Mansion program. Middle and high school students enrolled in arts programs across Louisiana can submit original artwork depicting either the governors who called the mansion home, the Mansion’s history, or its architecture. Submissions may include paintings, drawings, sculptures, or digital art and should be no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches. Old Governor’s Mansion staff will review the submissions based on artistic quality and historical accuracy. The top three entries in both the middle school and high school divisions will be displayed at the Mansion. Artwork must be submitted by mail or hand-delivered by Monday, October 19, to: Old Governor’s Mansion 502 North Blvd. Baton Rouge LA 70802. Winners will be announced and notified on November 2. Submission forms must accompany the artwork and can be obtained by visiting https://bit.ly/4rfD2Gd. For additional information, email [email protected]. The Old Governor’s Mansion, along with the Secretary of State’s eight other museums, brings Louisiana's stories and people to life through exhibitions and educational programming. Admission is free, and the museum is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 to 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.

LOUISIANA VOTER REGISTRATION WEEK 2026 Back to Newsroom LOUISIANA VOTER REGISTRATION WEEK 2026 September 21, 2026 BATON ROUGE, La. — Secretary of State Nancy Landry is joining Registrars of Voters across the state this week, September 21-25, to promote Voter Registration Week activities aimed at registering Louisiana citizens to vote ahead of the November 3 election. The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Monday, October 5, and the deadline to register to vote online is Tuesday, October 13. “The first step to participating in the electoral process is registering to vote. It’s never been easier to register or update your registration information in Louisiana — any citizen with a Louisiana license or ID can register online in a matter of minutes at GeauxVote.com,” Secretary Landry said. To register and vote in Louisiana, individuals must: be a U.S. citizen; be at least 17 years old (16 years old if registering in person at the Registrar of Voters Office or at the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles) to register and 18 years old prior to the next election to vote; not be under an order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony or, if under such an order, not have been incarcerated pursuant to the order within the last five years, and not be under an order of imprisonment related to a felony conviction for election fraud or any other election offense pursuant to La. R.S. 18:1461.2; not be under a judgment of full interdiction for mental incompetence or partial interdiction with suspension of voting rights; be a resident in the state and parish in which they seek to register and vote; apply at least 20 days prior to an election if registering online or 30 days prior to an election if registering in person or by mail. Citizens with a valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana Special ID card can register online 24 hours a day, seven days a week by downloading the GeauxVote app or online at voterportal.sos.la.gov. Louisiana residents can also register in person at their local Registrar of Voters, when they apply for or renew their driver’s license at any Office of Motor Vehicles, or when obtaining services at public assistance agencies and Armed Forces recruitment offices. This includes working collaboratively with the Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus and the Louisiana Women’s Foundation. The office provides strategic support and leadership to the Louisiana Women’s Policy and Research Commission and the Domestic Violence Prevention Commission. The Governor’s Office on Women’s Policy (OWP) supports public policy that promotes the educational, health, social and economic well-being of women and girls in Louisiana. Domestic Violence Prevention Commission The Domestic Violence Prevention Commission exists to: Assist local and state leaders in developing and coordinating domestic violence programs. Develop a state needs assessment and a comprehensive and integrated service delivery approach that meets the needs of all domestic violence victims. Establish a method to transition domestic violence service providers toward evidence-based national best practices focusing on outreach and prevention. Develop a plan that ensures state laws on domestic violence are properly implemented and provides training to law enforcement and the judiciary. Develop a framework to collect and integrate data and measure program outcomes. Louisiana Youth for Excellence (LYFE) Program

Our journey for positive youth development has not stopped during COVID. It has propelled our youth forward, towards a journey that shows patience, creativity and a greater understanding of engagement during unexpected change. – Sashika Baunchand, OMG Founder and President, Louisiana What is LYFE? The LYFE program is designed to teach youth personal responsibility, self-regulation, goal setting, healthy decision-making, a focus on the future, and the prevention of youth risk behaviors. Louisiana Youth For Excellence (LYFE) was created to promote positive youth development and to build awareness of the consequences of at-risk behaviors for today’s vulnerable youth, such as children in foster care, children in poverty, and children in juvenile detention centers. Prioritizing our most at-risk youth first, our goal is to expand statewide and provide our positive message to all students throughout Louisiana. LYFE works with schools, non-profit and faith-based organizations, parents, and the community to teach goal setting, leadership development, character building, and integrity. Program Objectives Implement curricula and/or strategies that include medically accurate and complete information based on adolescent learning and developmental theories for the age group receiving the education. Teach sexual risk avoidance skills through methods that do not normalize teen sexual activity. Select sexual risk avoidance curricula and/or strategies that are culturally appropriate, and recognize the experiences of youth from diverse communities, backgrounds, and experiences. Target youth ages 10 to 19. Funding This LYFE Program is made possible by Grant Number HHS-2024-ACF-ACYF-SRAE-0044 from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. Attorney General Murrill announces multi-state settlement of bankruptcy claims against 23andMe over genetic data breach

In October 2023, direct-to-consumer genetic testing company 23andMe announced that it had discovered a data breach in which 6.9 million consumers were affected, including 68,814 in Louisiana. This data breach exposed a wide range of data about 23andMe customers, including in some cases genetic ancestry information, and subsets of this data were subsequently published for sale on the dark web.

Louisiana Children's Trust Fund

The Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund (LCTF) was established in 1983 following the passage of the Children’s Trust Fund Act. This Act established a separate source of funds that is governed by a Board of Directors which is composed of cross-sector multi-disciplinary representatives. The responsibilities of the board include the development of a comprehensive State Plan for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and oversight of child abuse and neglect prevention programs. The board also ensures that best practices and evidence-based models are introduced and utilized by grantees and that programs are implemented with high quality and fidelity. The Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund operates as a quasi-government agency housed within the Governor’s Office of Programs and Planning. Each year, federal dollars are received through the Administration for Children and Families Community Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) grant in addition to the Statutory Dedicated funds obtained from duplicate birth certificate fees. LCTF utilizes these funds to provide reimbursement contracts to primary and secondary child abuse and neglect prevention programs. These programs provide support to strengthen the family system in an effort to prevent child abuse and neglect. All programs are funded after a highly competitive grant application process. Programs are also required to submit semi-annual evaluation reports to demonstrate outcomes for their populations served.
