Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Tropical Storm Conditions Expected for Southern Harrison

A Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect for Southern Harrison, with life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning; residents should complete preparations and be ready to evacuate.

Southern Harrison County is under a Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service New Orleans LA, effective October 7 at 9:59 PM CDT. Residents in Gulfport, Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Long Beach face an immediate danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland, with 3-5 feet above ground possible in surge-prone areas from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Tropical storm-force winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are possible. Plan for dangerous winds, and complete preparations now. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, downed trees, impassable roads, and scattered power outages.

Evacuation efforts and flood preparations for storm surge should be completed immediately. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Moderate flooding from 2-4 inches of rain is also expected, potentially causing evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
