A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Southern Harrison, including Gulfport, Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Long Beach, effective immediately as of October 7 at 3:54 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans LA. This alert indicates a potential for life-threatening storm surge flooding and significant wind impacts.

Residents in affected areas should plan for life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 3 feet above ground. Storm surge preparations are underway, including assembling disaster supplies and understanding evacuation routes. Leave if evacuation orders are given for your area. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in the loss of life.

Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Preparations for dangerous wind of strong tropical storm force should be underway now. Complete all preparations before the wind becomes hazardous.

Moderate rainfall of 2-4 inches is also forecast, with localized higher amounts, which may lead to flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, visit msema.org.
