Tropical Storm Warning for Northern Harrison: Prepare for High Winds & Flooding

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Northern Harrison, including Lyman and Saucier, with residents urged to prepare for dangerous winds and moderate flooding within the next 36 hours.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Harrison, including the communities of Lyman and Saucier, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in New Orleans reports that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous.

Expect peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with potential for stronger winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and carports. Mobile homes, especially unanchored ones, are at risk. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles. Prepare for downed trees, impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power outages.

Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts. This could lead to evacuations and rescues, swollen rivers, and overflowing small streams. Floodwaters may enter structures and make driving hazardous. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. The warning is in effect until October 8, 2026, at 6:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit msema.org.
