Laguna Cove Nature Park Construction Begins in Gulf Shores

Construction Begins on 53-Acre Laguna Cove Nature Park in Gulf Shores

Asphalt Services has begun construction on Laguna Cove Nature Park, a 53-acre conservation project along Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores. The contractor, awarded a $2.6 million bid, has mobilized equipment and started installing base material for the park's driveway and placing pilings for boardwalks.

Gulf Shores acquired the land in 2017 to preserve the natural area from development. The park will include restored wetlands, critical wildlife habitats, public restrooms, low-impact parking, and boardwalks for kayaking and birding.

A Natural Resource Damage Assessment grant from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources funds both the construction and the original land purchase. The NRDA program directs settlement money from environmental damage cases toward restoration projects in affected areas.
