Highway 59 Construction: Median Turn Restrictions Gulf Shores

Highway 59 Construction Restricts Median Turns in Gulf Shores

Construction crews began work June 1 on safety improvements to two median openings along Highway 59 between Cypress Bend Drive and Cotton Creek Drive.

The Alabama Department of Transportation converted both median openings to single-direction left turns. The northern opening, just south of Target, now allows only northbound left turns. The southern opening near CMX Pinnacle 14 theater permits only southbound left turns, requiring theater patrons to turn right onto Highway 59.

Crews are adding a northbound right-turn lane in front of Clark's gas station to improve access to Cotton Creek Drive. A divider on Cotton Creek Drive blocks left turns into Publix, eliminating backups at the Highway 59 signal.

Once median and turn lane work finishes, contractors will repave existing southbound lanes from Target to Holmes Bridge. Paving and striping will occur at night to minimize traffic disruptions.
