Groton Receives State Grant for Municipal Energy Upgrades
The City of Groton received a state grant to upgrade lighting, HVAC systems, and insulation across municipal buildings. The work is expected to cut the city's energy use by 15 percent and save tens of thousands of dollars annually.
Mayor Keith Hedrick said the funding modernizes aging infrastructure while reducing operating costs. "This grant allows us to invest in our infrastructure while also protecting the environment and saving taxpayer money," Hedrick said.
Connecticut requires grant recipients to document measurable reductions in energy consumption and cost savings. The improvements will also lower the city's carbon footprint as the state pursues emissions reduction goals.
City officials have not announced which buildings will receive upgrades or when work will begin.
