Oak View Students Complete 17 Service Projects
Oak View middle school students completed 17 service learning projects during advisory periods over several weeks, combining community work with skill-building.
Students painted murals, beautified the courtyard, and assembled tie blankets. They stocked school bathrooms with feminine hygiene products, created t-shirt bags for the Food Bank of Iowa, and made toys for the Animal Rescue League. A book drive collected donations for local medical clinics to distribute to children.
Other projects paired Oak View students with fourth graders as mentors, planned a game day for special education students across the district, and organized visits to Kennybrook and Spurgeon Manor, where students delivered handmade cards and performed music.
On campus, students helped the librarian prepare books, created video tutorials for future students, served as ambassadors for sixth grade transition day, and made May Day baskets for staff.
A wellness workshop taught students self-care strategies. The projects help students develop problem-solving skills and build resilience during their middle school years.
