A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Butler County, including Greenville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now.

Peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are possible, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, porches, and sheds is anticipated. Unanchored mobile homes may be damaged, and unsecured objects could become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages.

Moderate flooding from 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is also expected. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Flooding could impact structures and create hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared for potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.

For local information, contact Butler County EMA at 334-382-7911. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This warning is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM UTC.
