A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Butler County, including Greenville, effective immediately until 6:15 PM CDT today, October 8. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, warns of severe and dangerous conditions. Residents must act now to complete preparations.

Expect peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for winds reaching 58-73 mph. Significant damage to property is possible, including roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees. Power and communication outages are anticipated. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway.

Moderate flooding from heavy rain is expected, with 2-4 inches possible, and locally higher amounts. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and localized flooding in low-lying areas is probable. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a warning is issued, shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter.
