BUTLER COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Butler County, including Greenville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued the warning at 4:07 AM CDT on October 9, 2026. Residents should finalize all preparations for dangerous conditions, as strong tropical storm force winds and major flooding are expected.
Peak winds are forecast to be 45-60 mph with gusts up to 85 mph, beginning early this evening and lasting until Saturday morning. Significant wind damage is possible, including to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Large trees may snap or uproot, leading to impassable roads and widespread power outages. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 3-6 inches of rain, with higher localized amounts, leading to potential major flooding. Rivers may overflow, and many structures could be impacted. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
