A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Butler County, with Greenville expecting severe winds up to 100 mph, significant flooding, and potential tornadoes starting early this evening.
BUTLER COUNTY – Residents of Butler County, particularly those in Greenville, must prepare for a Tropical Storm Warning issued today, October 9, at 10:00 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This warning is effective immediately and expires at 6:00 PM UTC today.
Dangerous winds are expected, with peak forecasts of 60-80 mph and gusts up to 100 mph, equivalent to a Category 1 Hurricane. These hurricane-force winds are anticipated from early this evening until early Saturday morning. Residents must complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 3-6 inches and localized higher amounts possible. Major flooding is anticipated, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
