Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Greene County: Prepare for Hazardous Winds

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Greene County until 9:15 PM CDT today, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding rain expected in Leakesville and McLain. Residents should complete preparations and move to safe shelter immediately.

GREENE COUNTY — Residents in Leakesville and McLain are urged to complete all storm preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL issued the warning today, October 9, at 1:02 PM CDT, effective until 9:15 PM CDT.

Hazardous winds are expected, with a peak forecast of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS advises moving to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.

Additionally, a potential for moderate flooding rain is anticipated, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. This could lead to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
