A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Greene County, urging residents in Leakesville and McLain to prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding, with NWS Mobile AL advising immediate protective actions and shelter.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including the communities of Leakesville and McLain, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT. Residents should plan for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. The warning is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible, and residents are advised to move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communications outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with additional rainfall amounts of around 1 inch. Emergency plans should account for the potential for moderate flooding, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams and ditches could overflow.
