A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including Leakesville and McLain, by the National Weather Service Mobile AL. This warning, issued today, October 8, at 6:56 AM CDT, signifies that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the area within the next 36 hours. Residents should act now to complete all preparations.

Peak winds are forecast at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential for wind between 58 and 73 mph exists. Significant impacts are possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, potential mobile home damage, and several large trees snapped or uprooted. Scattered power and communication outages are also expected. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway immediately. The warning is effective until 3:00 PM UTC today.

In addition to wind, 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, are anticipated, presenting a moderate flooding rain threat. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, and protective actions should be considered for those in vulnerable areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

A few tornadoes are also possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
