A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Greene County, effective October 8 at 4:14 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. Residents in Leakesville and McLain should immediately begin preparations for significant wind damage and moderate flooding.

Dangerous winds are anticipated, with potential for 58 to 73 mph, and peak gusts up to 35 mph. The NWS advises planning for dangerous winds of equivalent strong tropical storm force. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Expect 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings to avoid serious injury or loss of life.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

Potential impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, snapped trees, impassable roads from debris, and scattered power outages. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause road closures. For local information, contact Greene County EMA at 601-394-5627. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This watch expires October 8, 2026, at 12:15 PM UTC.
