A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including Leakesville and McLain, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. The warning was issued on October 8 at 9:57 PM CDT and expires on October 9 at 6:00 AM UTC (1:00 AM CDT).
Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous wind conditions begin. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for wind between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, and scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with peak rainfall amounts around 1 inch. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Flood waters can enter some structures and make driving hazardous. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
