Residents in the Southern Rocky Mountain Front, Southern High Plains, Upper Blackfoot and MacDonald Pass, and Gates of the Mountains should prepare for a Winter Storm Warning in effect from noon today, October 10, until 6 AM MDT Monday, October 12.

The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued this warning, indicating heavy snow and strong winds are expected. Total snow accumulations are forecast to be between 10 and 20 inches across the affected areas, with the Lincoln valley potentially seeing up to 7 inches. Winds are expected to gust as high as 45 mph.

Travel will be very difficult, according to the NWS. The combination of gusty winds and heavy, wet snow could lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages. Snowfall on roadways, especially at lower elevations, will be most significant from this evening through late morning hours.

If travel is essential, carry an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle. For the latest road conditions, dial 511.
