A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, advising residents to prepare for heavy wet snow. This watch is in effect from Saturday evening, October 10th, through Sunday afternoon, October 11th.

The affected areas include the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, the Helena Valley, and the Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains. Forecasts indicate potential snow accumulations up to 6 inches below 5000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches possible above 5000 feet. Gusts of wind could reach as high as 45 mph.

The NWS warns that travel could become very difficult, particularly over mountain passes. Backcountry conditions are anticipated to be very dangerous. The combination of wet snow and gusty winds may lead to downed tree limbs and power lines.

Residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this developing situation. Prepare for potential power outages and difficult travel conditions.
