Travel in the Butte/Blackfoot region could become very difficult this weekend, according to a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Missoula MT. Heavy snow and strong winds are expected, prompting officials to advise preparation for hazardous conditions.

The warning is in effect from Saturday, October 9, at 6:00 PM MDT until Monday, October 11, at 6:00 AM MDT. Affected areas include MacDonald Pass, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 from Garrison to Elliston, Butte, and Homestake Pass.

Forecasters predict total snow accumulations between 3 and 9 inches, with winds gusting as high as 45 mph. These conditions are expected to significantly impact travel.

The NWS advises that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
