Winter Storm Watch Issued: Heavy Snow and High Winds Expected
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Butte/Blackfoot Region, including Homestake Pass and Butte, warning of 3-7 inches of snow and winds up to 45 mph from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon, potentially causing difficult travel and power outages.
Residents in the Butte/Blackfoot Region, including Homestake Pass, Butte, Georgetown Lake, MacDonald Pass, and Highway 12 Garrison to Elliston, should prepare for a Winter Storm Watch effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Missoula MT issued the watch today, October 8, at 1:30 PM MDT, and it remains in effect until October 11 at 6:00 PM MDT.
Heavy snow is possible, with total accumulations between 3 and 7 inches projected. In addition to snow, winds could gust as high as 45 mph. These conditions are expected from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon.
Travel could become very difficult during this period. The combination of strong winds and heavy snow on tree limbs may lead to downed power lines and sporadic power outages. The NWS advises all affected individuals to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this developing situation.
