Flock Safety Announces New Oversight Measures for Surveillance Technology

Why it matters locally: Law enforcement agencies across Tennessee, including the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, may be affected by these new oversight measures as they potentially utilize Flock Safety's surveillance technology for investigations.

Flock Safety, a company that provides police departments with technology to track vehicle movements, stated on Thursday it would implement several new safeguards for its products. The announcement follows instances of police agencies misusing the company's surveillance systems. The new measures aim to increase accountability and transparency in the use of Flock Safety's camera network. The company's systems record and analyze vehicle data, including license plate information, which law enforcement agencies access for investigative purposes.
