Elon Elementary Opens Food Pantry for Hungry Students
Staff at Elon Elementary School launched a food pantry this week to help students and families facing food insecurity. Sixty percent of the school's students qualify for free and reduced lunch, but many go hungry outside school hours and during breaks.
Community members can donate at two locations Monday through Friday: Elon Town Hall, 104 S. Williamson Ave., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Beth Schmidt Park, 2150 Elon Park Dr., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff created an Amazon wishlist for those who prefer to purchase items directly; a QR code on promotional flyers links to the list.
Organizers chose the two sites to reach residents across town. The pantry stocks food for evenings, weekends, and school breaks when students cannot access cafeteria meals.
