Residents in Forsyth, Hall, and Gwinnett counties should seek immediate shelter due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 6:15 PM EDT.

As of 5:51 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Gainesville, moving southwest at 15 mph. This storm is expected to bring winds up to 40 mph, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy rain.

Minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects are possible. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage. Locations impacted include Gainesville, Sugar Hill, Buford, Braselton, Auburn, Flowery Branch, Oakwood, Rest Haven, and Lake Lanier Islands.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If thunder is audible, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists are advised to slow down and prepare for potential loss of control due to hydroplaning.
