GADSDEN COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Gadsden County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:06 AM EDT. This warning signifies that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Areas specifically affected include Quincy and Chattahoochee.

Residents in Gadsden County must act now to complete preparations. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but warns of potential wind speeds between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, with scattered power and communications outages possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are expected, with localized higher amounts possible, leading to a potential for major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, creeks, and ditches may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Roads may become impassable.

A situation favorable for tornadoes has also been identified, with potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage and hinder emergency plans.

This Tropical Storm Warning is effective until October 8, 2026, 7:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee or Florida Division of Emergency Management.
