Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Gadsden: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Gadsden County, including Quincy and Chattahoochee, requiring immediate preparations for severe winds, major flooding, and the potential for tornadoes through early tomorrow morning.
Gadsden County residents, particularly those in Quincy and Chattahoochee, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL today, October 8, at 5:22 PM EDT. This warning is immediate and severe, effective until 1:30 AM UTC on October 9.
Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous wind conditions begin. Winds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property and trees, along with scattered power outages, is possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This poses a potential for major flooding, likely requiring evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, small streams, and creeks may overflow, and many roads may become impassable.
Furthermore, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, some of which could be intense. Those in manufactured homes or boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
