Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Gadsden: Act Now for Safety
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Gadsden County, including Quincy and Chattahoochee, until 4:30 PM EDT today, October 9, with immediate action advised for wind, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
Gadsden County residents, particularly in Quincy and Chattahoochee, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 8:28 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until 4:30 PM EDT today, October 9.
Immediate action is required to complete preparations before hazardous conditions begin. Expect winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured objects, trees, and minor power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Act quickly to secure loose items.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, anticipated. This brings the potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Scattered tornadoes could cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
