Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Gadsden County; Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Gadsden County, including Quincy and Chattahoochee, with severe winds, major flooding, and the potential for numerous tornadoes expected immediately through early Saturday.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Gadsden County, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning, issued October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT, includes Quincy and Chattahoochee, and is set to expire October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Residents must prioritize safety and prepare for severe conditions. Winds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Complete all property protection efforts now and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Expect limited damage to outbuildings and some tree limbs, with scattered power outages possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should account for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams could overflow, and many structures may experience flooding.
Furthermore, a Tornado Watch is active, indicating a very favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for many, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Numerous tornadoes can hinder emergency plans, leading to significant damage and widespread power outages.
