FL Forest Service Aids Landowners with Wildfire Prevention

The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, offers resources to Frostproof residents and landowners for wildfire prevention and forest management. The agency manages over 1.2 million acres of state forests and assists landowners with more than 17 million acres of private and community forests statewide.

The Florida Forest Service works to protect homes and natural resources from wildfire. The agency is responsible for wildfire protection on over 26 million acres across Florida. It provides technical information and grant programs to landowners to improve their forestland. The agency also helps protect homeowners in natural, fire-dependent environments from wildfire threats through prevention and suppression efforts.

Residents can find information on wildfire preparedness through the Florida Forest Service's website. Resources include guidance on becoming wildfire-ready, current wildfire conditions, and locating wildfire mitigation specialists. The Firewise USA program helps homeowners protect their properties. An interactive wildfire and burn authorization map is also available.

Beyond wildfire concerns, the Florida Forest Service promotes forest conservation, protection, and recreation. It manages Florida State Forests, which offer various recreational opportunities. For forest landowners, the agency provides information on forest action plans, conservation programs, and the economic impact of the forestry industry. Resources also cover forest recovery after hurricanes and managing tree pests and diseases.
