Florida Forest Service Assists Frostproof Landowners

The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, offers landowners a range of resources for forest management, wildfire prevention and recovery. These services benefit residents and landowners in Frostproof, a community that values its natural beauty.

The service provides technical information and grant programs to improve forestland. Through its wildfire prevention and suppression efforts, the Florida Forest Service protects homes and natural resources. The agency manages over 1.2 million acres of state forests and assists on more than 17 million acres of private and community forests. It also safeguards homes and forestland across more than 26 million acres from wildfire.

The Florida Forest Service website features information on wildfire preparedness, current wildfire conditions, and local mitigation specialists. Programs like Firewise USA help homeowners protect their property from wildfire. The service also issues burn authorizations for controlled burns and provides a web-based system for certified burners to request open burn authorizations. These authorizations are vital for property management, including areas near Lake Clinch.

Additional resources include information on forest conservation and protection, such as the Florida Forest Action Plan 2020 and the Florida Forest Legacy Program. The Florida Urban and Community Forestry program also offers assistance. The service provides support for forest recovery after hurricanes and guidance on managing tree pests and diseases that may follow. Landowners can also find information on non-timber forest products for revenue and inquire about purchasing tree seedlings.
