Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coastal Franklin: Seek Shelter Now
Coastal Franklin is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate hazardous winds, life-threatening storm surge, major flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents must seek shelter now.
Coastal Franklin residents, including those in Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by NWS Tallahassee FL at 10:57 PM EDT on October 9. This warning is in effect until 7:00 AM UTC on October 10.
Immediate action is required. Hazardous winds are unfolding, with peak gusts potentially reaching 55 mph. Shelter from hazardous wind is critical, and last-minute property protection efforts should be complete. Residents should remain sheltered in a safe location and avoid venturing outside.
Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding and likely evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating a favorable situation for tornadoes. While the tornado threat has decreased, emergency plans should continue to include the potential for several tornadoes. Stay informed and move quickly to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
