A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Franklin by the NWS, warning of possible life-threatening inundation and urging residents to prepare for potential flooding and tropical storm-force winds within the next 48 hours.
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Franklin, including Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, as of October 7 at 11:04 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL. This means life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline is possible within the next 48 hours.
Residents in these areas should prepare for potential storm surge flooding greater than 3 feet above ground. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.
A Tropical Storm Watch is also in effect, indicating tropical storm-force winds are possible within 48 hours. Peak winds are forecast at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage and complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.
Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
