Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Franklin: Seek Shelter Now
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Franklin, including Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, urging residents to shelter immediately due to life-threatening storm surge, high winds, potential major flooding, and possible tornadoes.
Coastal Franklin residents, including those in Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM UTC today.
Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible, with potential flooding greater than 3 feet above ground. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete; evacuees must be in shelters away from surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside, especially around high tide.
Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected. Last-minute efforts to protect property should be complete, and it is now time to shelter from hazardous wind. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for major flooding from heavy rain, prompting possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a situation favorable for several tornadoes, which can hinder emergency plans and cause significant damage. Stay informed and be prepared to move to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
